Fr. Tom Shearer
Fr. Tom was ordained in 1978 in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. He served at four other parishes and two schools before becoming pastor of St. Henry Parish in 2003. He has received a Bachelors and a Masters of Divinity degrees from the Athenaeum of Ohio, along with a Masters in Education from the University of Dayton. He has also studied at Catholic University of America, Wright State University, and Miami University. In his free time Fr. Tom enjoys photography and abstract painting
Fr. Ron Combs
Fr. Ron was born and raised in the Cincinnati suburb of Springdale, which is only about 30 miles south of St. Henry Parish. He attended St. Gabriel School in Glendale and is a 1982 graduate of Roger Bacon High School. He attended Kentucky Wesleyan College (majoring in Telecommunications) and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.A. in Communications in 1987. Fr. Ron entered the seminary in 1996 and received his Masters of Divinity degree when he was ordained a priest in 2003. He has spent much of his priestly ministry in the Dayton area and considers it home. In his free time, Fr. Ron enjoys hanging out with his dog, Sinjin. He also enjoys traveling, as well as watching sports on television. If you have an extra ticket to a UD basketball game, give him a call. He’d be happy to go!
Fr. Jim Romanello
Fr. Jim is the eleventh born of fourteen children, seven boys and seven girls. Most of the oldest seven still live in the greater Cincinnati area, while most of the younger seven live all over the country. He grew up in a traditional Catholic family, across the street from St. Mathew parish in Norwood, which is now a consolidated parish with two other Norwood parishes, known as Holy Trinity Parish. Before joining the seminary he worked as a cook at the Hyatt Regency in Cincinnati and at the Marriott in Covington, KY. He also worked as a Technical Services Representative for Fifth Third Bank. He joined the seminary in September of 2005 and was ordained a priest in May of 2013. He likes to camp and fish. He is an avid sports fan, both the Reds and the Bengals. His first assignment was Parochial Vicar at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Liberty Township Ohio.
As the Pastoral Associate, Mary is responsible for VIRTUS/Child Protection Decree compliance, Annulment Ministry, Bereavement Ministry, Prayer Blanket and Shawl Ministry, RCIA and anything else that lands on her desk! Mary has a BS in Education and a MA in Pastoral Ministry from the University of Dayton and a Doctorate in Ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation near South Bend, Indiana. Mary was the Associate Director for the Family Life Office of the Archdiocese for over seven years. Mary has been married to Gerry since 1971. They have two young adult children, two granddaughters, and one grandson. She is active as a Eucharistic minister, lector, wedding coordinator, and with her husband as a mentor couple for marriage prep. As a charter member of the parish and a member of the first graduating class of St. Henry grade school, she is a “walking archive”!
Nate joined the St. Henry staff in 2011, taking the role of Facility Manager in 2013. He graduated from West Carrollton High School and MVCTC, and he takes care of any and all maintenance needs of the parish facilities and grounds. In his free time Nate enjoys anything from rock climbing and four wheelers, to camping and hiking. If it’s outdoors, he’ll be there!
Steve has been involved in church music since he started playing in sixth grade at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Kettering. Steve was the music director at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Miamisburg for twelve years. Following his time at Our Lady of Good Hope Steve and his wife Carla began their family. They live in Miamisburg and have three children. Since leaving Our Lady of Good Hope Steve has stayed busy subbing at most of the Catholic Churches in Dayton. Steve holds a Lay Ministry Certification from the University of Dayton in Music and Liturgy and in Junior High and High School Youth Ministry. In addition he has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Dayton. Steve is the Human Resource Director for Miamisburg City Schools. Prior to this, Steve was a teacher, assistant principal and principal at Miamisburg City Schools. Steve is glad to be part of the St. Henry’s Parish.
Before joining St. Henry staff in 2012 she worked for a local country club. Angela joined the Catholic faith through the RCIA process ten years ago with St. Charles Parish in Kettering. Angela graduated with a Bachelors degree from Wright State University. She and her husband have two wonderful kids, and she loves to read in her free time.
Deacon Mike Mahoney
Deacon Mike and his wife Ann moved to Dayton from New York and joined the parish in 2005. Together they served as our Directors of Faith Formation from 2006 until 2012 when they retired. Though retired, Mike continues to serve the parish as a permanent deacon and assists with the RCIA program. He has extensive experience in the education field as a teacher and school administrator, and in parish ministry as a DRE and Youth Minister. He was ordained to the deaconate in 1996 for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, NY. His professional education includes the fields of biology, teacher education, educational administration, Biblical studies, and is currently doing graduate work in theology. Mike and Ann have three children and six grandchildren. In addition to enjoying being a grandparent, Mike enjoys traveling, reading, gardening, and model railroading!
Deacon Rick Martin
Deacon Rick was ordained in the Archdiocese of Denver June 10, 2000. He completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and Psychology from Regis University and the Diaconate Formation from St Francis School of Theology for Deacons, St John Vianney Seminary. In March 2003 Rick and Jan moved back to Ohio (after leaving the state in 1971) for a new job at Wright-Patterson AFB; and he was accepted into the Archdiocese of Cincinnati with full faculties and assigned to Our Lady of Good Hope Parish. Rick is retired from the United States Air Force (1989) and Civil Service (DFAS) in 2012. A father of three, now adults and in their own careers in other states, Rick hopes to devote his time to Deaconate Ministry and doing retired “things” with Jan, his wife of 42 years. A Volunteer Professional Chaplain for Dayton Hospice, Rick will continue to minister to both parishes: Our Lady of Good Hope and St Henry. Travel, reading, and cooking are some of his favorite free time activities.
Tina joined the St. Henry staff in the summer of 2012. She has her Bachelors of Science in Business from Wright State University with a focus in Finance. Before joining the St. Henry team she has worked in the banking industry and also for a global accounting firm. Tina was baptized as a baby at St. Henry and has been a parishioner ever since. She and her husband have two beautiful children, is an avid boater, coaches volleyball and softball, and enjoys playing tennis!
Mary Ruth Shearer
Mary Ruth found her calling to music ministry when she started playing the organ at St. Albert the Great Parish in Kettering in the fifth grade! She’s been involved in music ministry ever since. Mary Ruth joined the parish in 1995 with her husband, Mark, and has been a part of the music staff since 1998. She has a Masters Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from the University of Dayton, and has worked as a medical technologist for a lab at Miami Valley Hospital. More recently, she currently serves as the Director of Enrollment Management and the Director of Liturgical Music for Archbishop Alter High School. In addition to coordinating music ministries at St. Henry, she enjoys being a mother, reading, and going on cruises! Her favorite place to vacation is with Mickey Mouse.
Thecla joined the St. Henry staff in 2005. She has many years of experience in the printing industry doing accounting and cost accounting before retiring in 2003. She graduated from Julienne High School and received a degree in Accounting from the University of Dayton by attending night school. She was married for over 30 years to her wonderful husband, Richard, who passed away in January of 2006. In addition to her work, she enjoys spending time in nature and a regular workout routine. She is a lifelong UD Flyer Basketball Fan, and makes attending both Flyer and NCAA Tournament games a high priority!
Director of Children’s Faith Formation
Megan started attending youth group events when she was in High School and has been involved in Church ministry ever since. After graduating from Franciscan University of Steubenville with a Bachelors in Theology and Catechetics, Megan spent three years in China working with orphans. Before coming to St. Henry’s she worked as a CRE at St. Peter in Chains and helped started the High School at Royalmont Academy. When not working, Megan enjoys riding roller coasters, watching super hero movies, playing board games, running, crocheting, and reading.
Director of Youth Evangelization
Jen was born and raised in Northern Ohio, where her love for the Church started from getting involved in her home parish youth ministry. In 2017 she completed a Bachelors degree in theology and English at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Before coming to work at St. Henry she volunteered for a year with the Mercy Volunteer Corps in Cincinnati, advocating for social justice issues. In her free time, Jen enjoys hiking, playing her flute, and reading.
